Earth has a total of five populated continents: Africa, Asia, Europe, the Americas, and Oceania. Some people might split the Americas into two separate landmasses: North America and South America. Some others will divide it into even three: North, Central, and South America. For the purposes of this article, we are going to use the last criteria, making it a total of seven continents.
Every continent, as every country in the world, has amazing places and sights that take your breath away. Whether you already have your bucket list or you’re looking for new wanderlusts to feed your soul, this article is for you.
So check it out. I present to you the most iconic place on every continent. Let’s virtual travel to these unbelievable destinations.
Africa

Africa is well-known for its wildlife and the Sahara Desert. So yes, the places you can’t miss in Africa is visiting the ancient, full of history, pyramids of Egypt.
Of course, your trip doesn’t end there. A little further south, you’ll find Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Don’t miss the opportunity to get into a 4WD and go see the lions for yourself. Don’t let anyone tell you.
But if you’re looking for a more relaxed kind of vacation, then your place is in Johannesburg, South Africa. Johannesburg is the biggest most visited city in South Africa and probably the African continent too. It is packed with art galleries, museums, and studios that will immerse you in a completely different culture.
Asia

Asia is such a fascinating ancient continent that choosing just one destination might be the hardest job I’ve ever had. But don’t worry, the good news is that Asia is so beautiful that any place will provide the most delightful vacation you can imagine.
In order to explore the less unknown places of Asia, I’ve decided to leave out the most visited and kinda obvious places of the Asian continent, such as China, Japan, and India.
For a real Asian escape, you have to go to Bangkok, Thailand. In here you’ll find plenty of beautiful temples and palaces, colorful streets where you might well go shopping or eat a variety of food that will blow your tongue away.
But if you were looking for a more unheard-of country. I present to you, Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is an island located in the Indian Ocean in South Asia. In 2019, it was voted to be the #1 place to travel in the world.
Europe

Europe has a classical EuroTour. We’re all familiar with countries such as Spain, Italy, France… And don’t forget The Netherlands or the UK. Okay, but that’s not all. In fact, Europe has so many other countries you should visit for their culture, history and their astonishing sights.
I recommend you go visit the east part of Europe, where you’ll find a culture totally different from the one you’ve always heard or watched in European-themed movies. You might want to go to Belgrade, Serbia, and check out the impressive fortress, or grab a drink in a bar that is inside a castle.
You can also visit Zagreb or Dubrovnik, both located in Croatia. And take a look at the sandy paradisiac beaches with a medieval charm. Or maybe you could take a relaxing cruise to admire the fascinating ruins of the Acropolis in Greece.
North America

North America is composed of the United States, Canada, and Mexico. But that doesn’t mean it is easier to select the most iconic place here. There are so many to choose from. From New York to Las Vegas to the iconic Aztec pyramids of Teotihuacan in Mexico City.
Nonetheless, if you’re a huge jazz enthusiast, you just love music festivals and a fusion of French, Spanish, African, and Native American cuisine, New Orleans is the perfect place for you. Located on the Mississippi River, New Orleans is often described as the most marvelous city in North America.
But if the river is not the kind of water body you were thinking of, I bring you Playa del Carmen in Mexico. In Playa del Carmen you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy the paradisaic beaches of the Caribbean shoreline along with a large variety of hubs, bars, dance clubs.
Central America

Central America is the narrow stripe that connects North with South America. But even though it looks like a thin subregion, it is full of many places that will fill you with wonder.
Take for instance Roatan Island in Honduras. This island is located in the Caribbean and is part of the Bay Islands archipelago. It’s considered one of Central America’s top destinations. The white-sand beaches and the forest mountainous landscape are not the only things that will catch your attention, depending on the time of the year, you might actually spot some whale sharks calmly swimming in the ocean.
Central America is the perfect place for backpackers looking for adventures to tell their family and friends whenever they go back home if they ever go back. I mean, if you ever visit Semuc Champey in Guatemala, you might never want to go back, as this place will amaze you to the point of wanting to stay there forever. Semuc Champey is a remote destination located in the midst of the Guatemalan jungle. Its blue limestone natural swimming pools are exactly what you need after a long drive through the bumpy Guatemalan mountain roads. But it is so worth it.
South America

The fun part of South America is that even though all countries’ cultures might look alike, they are so different. So if you visit Colombia and then travel to Argentina, you’ll discover the magic of how two brother countries are so incredibly different from each other.
South America’s most attractive destination is Machu Picchu, located in Peru. But who can blame it? After all, it is one of the most well-preserved archeological ancient sites in South America.
Of course, Rio de Janeiro won’t be ignored in this list. I mean come on. Who can forget probably the most famous city in South America? The carioca lifestyle, tropical food, and the caipirinhas. Climbing to the statue of Christ the Redeemer has to be on your bucket list.
Oceania

When you hear Oceania, you probably think of Australia and in the best of cases New Zealand. But, as a matter of fact, Oceania is composed of many other countries. Fourteen to be exact…
You have heard of Fiji before, haven’t you? Even though it is an unpopulated country, Fiji is the favorite destination for honeymooners. And this is not only for its paradisal beaches but for its diversity in activities that combine the beautiful landscape with the perfect vacation.
Palau is another archipelago located in the Pacific Ocean. It is made out of 500 islands full of palm trees, green mountains, and a perfect transparent blue sea. Try scuba diving and explore the contrast of the coral reefs with the World War II wrecks.
