A prominent South Carolina attorney said he was shot this Saturday, according to law enforcement, about three months after he discovered the bodies of his wife and son shot dead outside the family home.
Alex Murdaugh, 53, was shot and threatened in Old Salkehatchie Road near Warnville, South Carolina, on Saturday while traveling to Charleston, authorities said.
According to his lawyer, Murdaugh’s brother, a car stopped when a truck crossed the street and someone got out and opened fire. Authorities said he received a superficial head wound.
“The murder of my wife and son has created an incredibly difficult time in my life. I have made many decisions that I deeply regret. I am quitting a law firm and am in rehab after a long battle,” he told Fox News six months ago.
No suspects have been arrested in that case, leaving conversations in the area to turn into a murder mystery saga.
The deaths drew attention to the involvement of Paul, the lawyer’s son, in a 2019 boating accident that claimed the life of a 19-year-old woman.
Paul had pleaded not guilty and court records show the charges were dropped after his death.
The Murdaugh family has been connected to the law and the judicial system in Hampton County for more than 100 years.
Starting in 1920, three generations of Murdaughs served as Solicitor – or state prosecutor – of the 14th Judicial Circuit until 2006. The family lineage certainly brings a lot to the conversation as it shows the face of justice from the most sinister aspect.
The Carolina State Police took over the investigation, but the case remains unsolved. The victim has announced a reward of $100,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the death of his family.
