The internet is part of our daily life. It has been for some years now and will continue to do so in the future as technology continues to advance and the world becomes more interconnected.
Within the internet, some platforms have played a very important role in the way we now interact with other people. Social networks are the favorite places to talk with friends, meet new people, and even learn new things and within them, the figure of the influencer has emerged. People who amass a huge following and whose job it is to create content.
Although social networks are predominantly populated by young people, these are not necessarily always safe sites. That is why many parents wonder what is the right age to be in them?
Preserving Her Daughter’s Mental Health

A Brazilian mother of a 14-year-old girl decided that her daughter was not old enough for the level of exposure she received on social media so she decided to close her accounts.
Fernanda Rocha Kanner, the mother of Valentina, made the decision arguing that she did not want her daughter’s personality to be shaped by the opinion of her followers. She did it to protect her mental health.
The 14-year-old had more than 1.7 million followers on Instagram and TikTok.
This mother’s decision has sparked much controversy on social media, with thousands of people posting comments supporting her on the grounds that she is caring for the healthy development of her daughter. Comments have also emerged that qualify her as possessive and strongly criticize this concerned mother.
“I spent the week reading strangers tell me that I was narcissistic, selfish, that I had ended my daughter’s dreams, that I was jealous of her. I read it while she slept peacefully and happily glued to my side, impervious to the poisons of the Internet, stage for cowards,”said Fernanda.
The girl later commented in an interview that while she was upset by her mother’s decision, for the time being, she would listen to her and she will not return to social media for a while.
