A few days ago, an unfortunate event occurred in Volusia County, Florida. Two children, a 14-year-old girl, and a 12-year-old boy ran away from their foster home and went to a nearby house, presumably to rob it.

Once there a neighbor warned the police. The officers arrived and initiated contact with the kids, and asked them on several occasions to leave the site with their hands up, however, the children would not listen.

Inside the house, they found a large arsenal of weapons, several handguns, a shotgun, and even an AK-47 with which they began to shoot at the police officers who after running and seeking refuge behind some trees they tried again to deescalate the situation.

Their efforts were unsuccessful as the children kept firing at them, so the officers had no other choice but to fire back.

The 14-year-old girl suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and arm and she is admitted to a hospital and is reportedly in stable condition. The 12-year-old boy surrendered when he saw his partner on the ground and did not suffer any injuries.

After being arrested the boy informed the police that when they realized the presence of the authorities the girl told him “I’m gonna roll this down like GTA.”

“I don’t know what to say. Where have we gone wrong that a 12-year-old and 14-year-old think it’s OK to take on law enforcement?” said an officer.

The boy had no criminal record, he had only had a couple of incidents where he had threatened violence against a classmate and an administrative employee of his school. On his part, the girl only had a precedent for having started a fire in a wooded area near a house a few months ago. Now both are being charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and armed burglary.
