Kechi Okwuchi is a Nigerian-American singer and motivational speaker who at age 16 had an experience that almost killed her and ended up completely transforming her.
On December 10, 2005, at the age of 16, Kechi Okwuchi boarded Sosoliso Airlines flight 1145 with several of her classmates. It was planned to be a domestic passenger flight between the Nigerian cities of Abuja and Port Harcourt. The flight had complications and ended up falling and crashing to the ground at an impressive speed, after the impact the plane immediately caught fire.
Of the 103 passengers and 7 crew members only 7 people managed to survive the impact and the fire but later 5 of them succumbed to their injuries. Only two people survived that tragic accident and Kechi Okwuchi was one of them.
She was taken off the site by helicopter and then taken to a hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa, and later to Shriners Hospitals for Children in Galveston, Texas, USA. Kechi suffered from third-degree burns on more than 65% of her body and was given a 30% chance of survival, however, with great strength and courage, she managed to survive her injuries and rebuild her life from scratch.

She became a motivational speaker to tell the story of her overcoming and she also became a singer. She even went on to be a finalist on the twelfth season of America’s Got Talent in 2017.
