What are you willing to do to be famous for the thing you like doing the most? Maybe you have heard that you could work fast but the devil works faster, that is why sometimes when a person becomes really known out of a sudden there is a funny thing to joke that they sold their souls to the devil. Well, there is a whole theory about this fact called the 27 Club, which we are going to tell you about next.

The 27 Club consists of a group of deceased people that all passed away when they were 27 years old but what makes them be related between them is the fact that all of these people were really famous and at the peak of their careers right before they died.

This cultural phenomenon started because of the several musician deaths that took place between 1969 and 1971. During that period Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Brian Jones, and Jim Morris all huge international stars passed away at 27 years old because of drug and alcohol problems. However, the term didn’t become popular until 1994 when another important member ‘joined’.

This time it was Kurt Cobain who died at 27 and what was more curious about it is that his death was the same day as the earliest club member known Robert Johnson. Some theories even state that Cobain intentionally committed suicide at that age, to be part of other remarkable musicians that were part of this phenomenon, but others affirm that when his mother said the famous phrase ‘Now he’s gone and joined that stupid club. I told him not to join that stupid club’, she was referring to a lot of his family members committing suicide.

The following death was Amy Winehouse’s who passed seventeen years later. She was going through many drug problems in 2011 that led her to an overdose. She was also in an important moment of her career although she had a lot of personal problems. What caught the eye of the public regarding her age was the fact that years before she had stated that she was afraid of dying at that age, which seemed a little bit suspicious to the followers of the theory.

A common belief leads to thinking that some of these artists preferred to leave the world while they are still relevant or that they made a pact with the devil to become famous and then he would take their souls in return, but actually, their tragic deaths were the result of the pressure fame has put on their careers taking them to abuse substances.

This club has been referenced a lot in music, tv, films, and books and is a big deal in pop culture. Though the musicians mention before are the most known members of the club, they aren’t the only ones, the list has almost 80 names on it that include actors and other types of artists.

There have been many scientific studies to find out what is particular in that age, but other than the extreme limitless life some musicians live there is no other. There isn’t an increase at 27 years old that makes people vulnerable to death, so if you are or about to turn 27 you are completely safe as long as you live a healthy life.
